Our story… Alex Sirum GMC Motorhomes Inc. is a mid sized family owned and operated corporation. We have been in the GMC Motorhome sales, service and repair business since 1983. The company was started by Alex Sirum as an auto sales and repair business in Okeechobee Florida in 1980 under the name of Alex Sirum Auto. The used car business was good. Okeechobee was a very small town with only two or three car dealers in town. By the mid 80’s he added a rental car business to the operation. By the 80’s Alex had owned his original GMC for a few years and took an extended trip to Alaska. It was a 23’ Sequoia, bright yellow and in very good condition. Before making the long trip he reconditioned the motor home inside and out. About this same time Alex joined a GMC owners group called the Florida Sunshine Statesmen. The club was small but had a strong core of devoted and committed GMC owners. Before long several of the Florida GMC owners started coming around to get their units repaired and serviced. Most of these original motor home customers were pleased with the work and let their fellow GMC owners know that a friendly, honest and fair service facility existed in south central Florida (Okeechobee). So the word spread, and 2 customers became 4, 4 became 8, 8 became 15 (can’t expect to win them all), 15 became 30 and so on. To keep up with the demand we started to stock some of the more common parts as well as some of the custom accessories that seemed to be in demand but not easily found. Along with the parts we also started to stock several good used GMC’s for resale. As the years went by, our customer base grew, as well as our company and its extensive inventory. In around 1988 Alex was joined by his son Jeff. As the GMC business grew, time grew short, so the used car business was cut back, and a few years later the rental car business was also cut. Somehow all efforts were now directed to the sales maintenance and customization of GMC Motorhomes! By 1999, we had outgrown our location. As luck would have it, Wal-Mart needed a bit more land to build its new store in Okeechobee, the deal was done and we moved from South Parrott Avenue to our current location on Highway 70 East. Moving was no simple task. Several months, countless truckloads, a few tow trucks, a semi-trailer, and a Caterpillar loader were all needed to make the move. Fellow loyal and well-appreciated GMC Motorhome owners contributed many countless hours to the success of the move. In the year 2000 the company incorporated and the name was changed to Alex Sirum GMC Motorhomes, Inc. The new location is working well with over 20,000 sq ft. under roof on about 3.5 acres. There is plenty of parking and a complete camping area for all GMC owners. Our goals then and now are still the same: To provide a complete GMC motor home sales, service and restoration facility and to help preserve the Classic GMC Motorhomes. At this time, Alex’s son, Jeff Sirum, operates the business.

Our story…

Alex Sirum GMC Motorhomes Inc. is a mid sized family owned and operated corporation.   We have been in the GMC Motorhome sales, service and repair business for over 32 years. The rental cars were for the local people short term mostly. Okeechobee is a seasonal fishing town with thousands of snowbirds landing every winter, and the rental car business was very good in the winter and spring seasons. By the late 80’s Alex had owned his original GMC for a few years and took an extended trip to Alaska. It was a 23’ Sequoia, bright yellow and in very good condition. Before making the long trip he reconditioned the motor home inside and out. About this same time Alex joined a GMC owners group called the Florida Sunshine Statesmen. Foot Note:  In the summer of 2007 Alex and Ramona completed their second motor home trip to Alaska. This time they drove a 1978 23-foot Birchaven. Thirteen thousand miles, thirteen weeks, almost no problems, yet we did hear rumor that the bed was smaller and the walk to the bathroom seemed longer!
